SWTOR Issues??

How to optimize games for NTHUSIM products.

Postby The_Nephilim » Fri Sep 18, 2015 10:18 am

Hey Brad,

I was running SWTOR last night before I got it activated and SWTOR was flawless.. I went to load up the game tonight and ran into a bit of trouble.. there are gaps where the edge is on both sides of the screen.. I thought it was just a misalaignment but when I alt Tab out and goto the alignment screen it is perfect??

I am unsure what had happened as last night it appeared to be working no problems?? Here is a pic of the alignment and ingame screenshot..

Typically when I see that one of two things have happened. THe resolution either is't the same as the desktop resolution or (more likely the case) the WDDM desktop mode is causing Nthusim to double apply the warp. Uncheck the WDDM desktop in Tools and see if that is what is happening. If it is, you can add in an exception for the game within the profiles.ini file that is in the Nthusim installation directory.

Here is a key to the syntax:
# Flags you can set :
# dwm_warp_policy
# 0 = autodetect
# 1 = always warp
# 2 = never warp (unless DWM totally off)
# 3 = never ever warp

Here is an example of a game profile entry within that profiles.ini text file:
[pCARS64.exe]
dwm_warp_policy=3

In place of pCARS64.exe you would put the name of the game exe. pCARS64.exe happens to be the exe name for the game Project CARS. Not sure what the SWTOR client exe name is. I don't currently have Origin installed on my test machine to check.

The profiles.ini has a lot of hidden options in there that are handy. This file is what will end up being what we'll update a lot in the future to ensure specific games work correctly if they require some exception setting to work. It'll be great once we have a user interface for the profile settings. I'm leaning towards an interface like Nvidia does with their profiles within the Nvidia control panel but within Nthusim.

I did disable desktop warping and the Warp worked right.. so I found the ini file and entered this:

[swtor.exe]
dwm_warp_policy=3

[launcher.exe]
dwm_warp_policy=3

but when I saved the file and started SWTOR.exe the warp was the same, broke.. I am wondering what I did wrong?? for now I can just disable desktop warping..

Probably have to exit out of Nthusim then relaunch it in order for it to read the profiles.ini updated. Sometimes the exe file the game uses isn't always readily apparent. Might have to look in task manager to make sure what exe is being used by the game when you're logged in and in game. The syntax you used in your additions looks ok. Not thinking it's a syntax issue.

The dwm_warp_policy=3 profile additions fixes a bunch of applications. I use it also on things like Chrome, Steam and Photoshop.

Well that was the wrong syntax I found out what it is and it worked fine:

[swtor.exe *32]
dwm_warp_policy=3

I will try this with Falcon 4 BMS as the main menu gets weird sometimes..

Excellent. I'm still experimenting a lot with the setting myself. They are mostly undocumented thanks to Emmanuel's death in 2013. While Ed has picked up things and is going in new directions a bunch of still simply isn't properly documented yet. For instance of one of those new directions Ed has implemented into Simvisuals a new calibration design called Rapidcal. I've spent the last few days getting familiar with it. If you properly measure out uniformly what to calibrate to on the screen it goes a lot faster than the previous grid mechanics. It goes especially faster in relation to edge blend. It calibrates that automatically. Also, I believe the renderer engine uses anisotropic rendering for the desktop instead of bilinear which Nthusim currently uses. The rendering method Nthusim uses for desktop sometimes gives me a bit of nerd rage when reading fonts and text. Definitely elements in it I want to see improved in Nthusim for 4.1 or 5.0 (whatever naming convention happens for that sort of patch update drop).

Yep if I recall the menu system for BMS is tied to the WDDM renderer a bit so settings on this should fix it.

Well I had Rise of Flight do similar I put in the correct exe and volia it worked no problems.. I am not getting F4 BMS to work tho.. I thought I had it one time but I did not have nThusim running..

I tried turning off Desktop warp and ingame F4 Menu still looked warped so I don't think this trick will work with F4.. :(
